Siren
A lifeboat could only go so far
In a vast blue ocean
There was nowhere to go
He was completely stranded
With no soul around to hear his pleas,
The old man spoke to the ocean
“Take me home,” he begged.
Its response: a silent denial
The waves rested calmly
Overtime the man grew hopeless
He looked to the ocean for comfort.
Beneath the waters
Something called to him
Let my voice lead you this way
He peered over the boat
I will not lead you astray
Below darkness cloaked the depths
Trust me as we reach the side
He made out a figure swimming upwards
An ethereal face surfaced above.
He caught his breath at the sight.
The maiden’s soft lips parted to speak
“Come here,” she purred.
He leaned over the edge in a daze.
A cold light flashed in her eyes.
Suddenly something slammed the boat
The old man tumbled overboard.
He flailed about in the water
Sharp claws clutched his leg
Slowly she pulled him under
He struggled against her grip
The pain in his lungs increase
As they went farther down
An uncomfortable weight settled on his body
Everything felt too heavy to move
The dark depths swallowed them in
